Chris Creason knows that feeling, because last Saturday, he was the first wrestler from El Diamante High School to win a state championship.
It’s not the green hair or lucky duck he brings to matches; the secret to Creason’s success on the wrestling mat is lots of practice.
"He's grown a lot from all the tears in the garage," said father and coach, Chris Creason Sr.
Also key to the younger Creason's success - pure dominance.
"He's just unstoppable," said Creason Sr. "They can't hold him."
That allowed him to accomplish a feat not reached by any Visalia boy in almost 50 years - win a state wrestling championship at 157 pounds.
"There was a lot of screaming and a big 'ol hug afterward," Creason said.
He got there by working on his craft since he was 4 years old and learning from his father, a former wrestler, as well as another state champion in the family.
Jennah Creason is Chris' aunt and a former state gold medalist in 2023. She was the first-ever Tulare County girls' wrestler to win a state wrestling title.
"We brought that attention on us, keeping the Creason legacy going with the wrestling," Jennah said.
All of Jennah's siblings were placed in wrestling by her father, and that extends to her newly-crowned nephew.
So, it’s not green hair or ducks.
It’s more than practice and dominance.
